"Wakatsuki Yoshida Okuizumo" opens in the home of tatara
An old-folk-house auberge "Wakatsuki Yoshida Okuizumo" and its Japanese-French restaurant "Wakatsuki Saryo" opened on 18 May 2026 in Yoshida, Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture.
Highlights
- Wakatsuki Saryo: a fully-reservation-only restaurant with 10 seats. Dinners by manager-chef Yoshinori Ikenoya start from JPY 10,000 (service charge and tax excluded). The menu draws on local vegetables, game and seafood, prepared within the framework of French cuisine.
- Honan suite: a single-rental main suite housed in a 150-year-old former village headman's residence, now in pre-opening. During the pre-opening period (18 May to 17 July), a special opening rate of JPY 60,000 per person for a stay with two meals is offered.
- Full grand opening with all three rooms: planned for summer 2026, including two detached pavilions.
- The property is located in the Oku-Izumo region, a Japan Heritage site with a tatara iron-making tradition of about 1,400 years.
The restaurant aims to be listed in Gault & Millau, and the accommodation aspires to a Michelin Key, in the long-term goal of delivering cuisine and stays from the mountains of San'in that meet world standards.
